Are
mulligans really made from wooden golf club heads? Yes ... each
mulligan is
handcrafted from one of yesterday's wooden golf club heads.
Paint
and varnish are tediously removed from each club head to reveal the
beauty and character of the original wood.
|
|
After
the paint and varnish is removed, what do you do to protect the natural
wood of the club head? During the creative
process the
natural wood club head, face and insert, and sole plate are sealed with
a lacquer
solution. English wax is then applied and buffed to add
luster and highlight the beauty of the natural wood.
|
| What
kind of wood was used to make the golf club heads ? Golf club
manufacturers primarily
used persimmon and
maple. The persimmon heads were shaped from a
solid block of the wood. Maple strips were glued and
laminated
into blocks for the maple club heads. This gives the maple
heads
more of a circular woodgrain look.
|
| Can
I choose either wood for my mulligan? Yes. Refer to
the photographs on the home page
to get an idea of what each wood looks like.
|
| Are
the mulligan duck and waterfowl heads made of wood? No.
A mold is made
from my original wood carving and then each head is delicately hand
cast in polyresin to capture all the detail of my original carving.
|
| Will
my mulligan look exactly like the picture? Not
exactly. Each wooden golf club head is slightly different in
wood grain and color. Also, each of these
previously used golf club heads will have different face inserts, sole
plates
and play experience. And since I hand paint each duck and
waterfowl head, there will be
subtle variances in each com- pleted mulligan head.
|
| What do you use
to paint the mulligan heads? Artist
acrylic paints. These are the same paints I use on my
wildlife wood
carvings. After painting, each head gets 2 coats of a clear
matte
varnish to protect the painted surface.
|
| How
are the heads attached? After
the wooden golf club head is stripped of paint and varnish and cut
down, the duck or waterfowl head is properly positioned and
attached with a commercial
epoxy. The mulligan head and golf club head are then carved and sanded
to ensure a smooth and natural fit and flow.
|
| What
are the eyes made of? Glass. These are the
same type of eyes used by taxidermists and wood carvers.
|
| Do
you sign the mulligan? Yes. I woodburn my name on the toe of the golf club head. |
| How
long have you been making the mulligans? Since
2003. I have been woodcarving for about 25 years and selling
my
wildlife wood carvings at juried art and craft shows. I decided to
create a web site for the mulligans in fall of 2006.
|
| What
if I am not satisfied or want to exchange my mulligan for another one? Your
satisfaction is guaranteed. If you are not completely satisfied, within 30 days just
return your mulligan in its original condition and I shall be glad to
give you a refund or replacement.
|
| How
long have you been associated with MasterCard and Visa? I
have been taking MasterCard/Visa for over 15 years. Your credit card
information is taken only by me and handled with the highest security.
Of course, personal checks or money orders are accepted.
